Mission Statement

Our mission is to send forth students into the world as both saints and scholars by providing them with a high standard of education, within a caring atmosphere, founded on the virtues of Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith.  (Revised and approved by School Board, June 2018)

School Philosophy

Faithful to the Gospel and Jesus’ words, “I come that you may have life and have it to the fullest.”  St. Mary Cathedral Parish and School offer a Catholic elementary education in which the whole child is formed and challenged to reach his/her fullest potential through gaining an understanding of one’s faith in the culture and world in which one lives.

The school plays an integral part in the family life of the students as it aids the parents in their role as primary educators of their child.  The parents, students, parish, and staff are mutually enriched as they share in community and in the cooperative venture of developing their talents, gifts, and virtues as well as those of their children.

Teachers guide students’ learning through a sequentially-planned curriculum while expecting and motivating the child to take responsibility for his/her achievements and to help develop them into saints and scholars.  The child will be given understanding, experiences, skills and formation in their affective, academic, moral, spiritual, and social life.  The child will be made aware of the needs of the Church and world in which he/she will be called by the Holy Spirit to lead, serve, and share life in its fullness.            (Revised and approved by School Board, June 2018)

Overview

St. Mary Cathedral School enjoys a rich 150-year history as a high-quality, Catholic, Diocesan, Co-Educational Elementary school for children Pre-Kindergaten through 8th grade students. St. Mary Cathedral School provides its students an excellent Catholic academic education based on the virtues and living the Gospels!

Since 1868, St. Mary Cathedral School has focused on preparing children academically, emotionally, and spiritually to become saints and scholars. Our facilities include a state-of-the-art new addition to the school in 2010. It added a new office space, conference room, and 9 classrooms as well as an elevator to all levels of the school. We have a full gym, cafeteria, music/band room, computer room, and more. We currently have over 200 technological devices of laptops, tablets, etc. Our staff are all certified teachers by the Missouri Nonpublic Schools Accreditation Association and the National Catholic Educators Association. They work to promote an environment that encourages all students. One of the greatest benefits is that we can provide a school that is Christ-centered. Part of our mission in Catholic education is to teach students to understand the academic material, but also how it aligns with the Catholic Faith.  The students are able to attend Mass twice a week. We celebrate all school Benediction and Adoration once a month as well. Prayer begins and ends each day and is an integral role in the classrooms.

We teach the children to find their strengths, may it be Athletics, Student Council, Scholar Bowl, or Youth Group. Every student is also a part of a school family that meets once a month to do an activity together. The families have students from every grade level and allow the older students to be a leader.
The academic expectations of the school are important. Our students consistently place well above the national norms. They participate in various local and national competitions and performances as well. The school also works with the Renaissance Reading/ Accelerated Reading program to instilling a love of reading. We recognize the parents as the primary educators of their children and work to help the parents lead their children to be both scholars and saints by the time they leave St. Mary.
